JOHOR BARU, Feb 22 — Outspoken Johor DAP state committee member Dr Boo Cheng Hau today praised Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (Bersatu) Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan for resigning from his party’s post and called on all political leaders with pending court cases to do the same.

He said the Tasik Gelugor MP’s resignation without coercion should serve as an example for Malaysian politicians from all parties.

“It is a responsible decision made by Wan Saiful not only to Bersatu, but for others who want to initiate new individual accountability as a public figure.

“Frankly, PH also has a handful of these ‘court cluster’ leaders too. They should follow Wan Saiful’s noble example and step down from their posts,” said Dr Boo when contacted by Malay Mail.

The former Johor DAP chief and state Opposition leader was commenting on Wan Saiful’s move where he asked Bersatu to allow him to step down as the party’s information chief following his corruption charges yesterday.

Dr Boo said despite Wan Saiful coming from a different political party, he valued his responsibility and believed it should be emulated by all politicians.

“I have never met Wan Saiful personally, but have read his articles when he was with the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS) before 2018.

“I regard him as a talented intellectual where he did well as a researcher before he entered politics,” he said.

Today, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin confirmed Wan Saiful’s resignation as the party’s information chief from today.

However, he said this decision was not an acknowledgment that Wan Saiful is guilty.

Wan Saiful had earlier offered to step down as Bersatu’s information chief following his corruption charges.

Yesterday, the 47-year-old politician claimed trial for two bribery charges at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court, in connection with the government’s Jana Wibawa scheme back in 2022.
