KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 — Umno will do better in the Selangor state election with Tan Sri Noh Omar and Khairy Jamaluddin out of the picture, PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil said.
He sees Umno as having better chances now that the duo is no longer in the party.
“Now that both of them (Noh and Khairy) are no longer in the party, Umno’s chances are better,” Fahmi, who is also Lembah Pantai MP, said after attending his constituency’s Chinese New Year open house here in Bangsar.
He was reported by FMT as saying that seat negotiations are ongoing between Umno and Pakatan Harapan (PH) for the Selangor polls that are expected to take place in May or June.
“I’m confident the process will go on smoothly. When it is time (to announce the candidates), we will do so,” he said.
On Friday, Selangor Umno chief Datuk Megan Zulkarnain Omardin said Barisan Nasional component parties have decided on which seats to contest in the election and will meet with PH soon to discuss the matter officially.
Last month, Noh and Khairy were sacked from Umno for breaching party discipline during the recent general election (GE15).
Noh, who previously held the Selangor Umno chief post, had said that based on Umno’s dismal performance in GE15, which resulted in losing all of its strongholds, its chances of winning state seats in the upcoming polls are slim.
