KOTA BARU, Feb 1 — The South-east Brigade of the General Operations Force (GOF) seized various contraband worth RM119 million under Op Wawasan which was carried out at the Kelantan side of the Malaysia-Thailand border last year.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said throughout the period, a total of 1,008 raids and arrests were made involving various offences including cross-border crimes and smuggling of controlled goods to Thailand.

“For the 7th battalion alone, a total of 400 cases involving seizures worth more than RM34 million were recorded,” he told a press conference after the handover ceremony of Op Wawasan tasks between the 7th Battalion and the 8th Battalion of the GOF at the GOF Tactical Headquarters in Lubok Setol, Pasir Mas today.

Also present were GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Hasan Basri Ahmad Safar and his deputy, ACP Hakemal Hawari.

As for this year, Muhamad Zaki said the 7th Battalion of the GOF had so far conducted 90 raids with involving seizures worth more than RM4 million. — Bernama
