KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 — Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin insisted tonight that the decision to fire and suspend members was made by the disciplinary board, refuting Tan Sri Noh Omar's claim otherwise.
The party had been facing issues related to discipline so it was forced to make difficult decisions, he told reporters after leaving the Umno supreme council meeting held at party headquarters in Menara Dato’ Onn.
“The decision was made based on recommendations or the decisions by the disciplinary board,” he said.
Selangor Umno chief Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin said Noh had 16 accusations against him, all related to disciplinary matters sabotaging the party during last year’s general election.
“There were 16 accusations against him for sabotaging the party during GE15,” he said.
He added that another independent candidate who ran for the Tanjong Karang Parliamentary seat in GE15 who was a special officer to Noh as well.
He said that the disciplinary board had reviewed and investigated the accusations and found them to be true, and were unrelated to what happened during the Umno general assembly decision as Noh claimed.
“This is a democratic party,” Megat Zulkarnain said.
He confirmed that Noh had been sacked, as that was what the latter had wanted.
But he also said that Noh can appeal against the decision if he wishes for it.
Earlier this evening, Noh walked out of the Umno supreme council meeting, telling reporters that he had been suspended for six years but he had asked to be kicked out instead.
He insisted that his suspension had not followed procedure as his meeting with the party’s disciplinary board was due to be held on Monday.
