KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 16 — Selangor has plans to establish a Greater Klang Valley or transform into a conurbation to link four cities within the next 10 years, Chief Minister Datuk Amirudin Shari said.
The four cities are Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, and possibly Klang.
“This concept is based on the clusterisation of the economy, focusing on the best and uniqueness of each locality. It is also the first of its kind in Malaysia, with four connected cities within one state.
“However, there will be a need to organise a common platform in terms of administration and implementing certain coordination among the cities’ services,” he was quoted as saying by The Star during the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) Vibrant Community Awards 2022 ceremony held at Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa yesterday.
Amirudin, who is also the Sungai Tua assemblyman, said some improvements in facilities and services must be made in the Klang municipality before it can be elevated to city status.
He also extended the invitation to Kuala Lumpur to join Selangor to get to the metropolitan level.
“It would also be good if Kuala Lumpur could join this network, to better uplift and promote the entire Klang Valley as an attractive and vibrant area,” he said.
According to Amirudin, the plan would need at least six to seven years to materialise.
