JOHOR BARU, Jan 12 — Putrajaya's Maritime Rescue Control Centre (MRCC) has today ordered the Kuching Maritime Rescue Sub Center (MRSC) to monitor its waters in an effort to locate the missing Malaysian cargo ship MV Dai Cat 06, which has been reported missing for the past 12 days.

Johor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director Maritime First Admiral Nurul Hizam Zakaria said the latest development was also communicated to the Johor Baru MRSC in an effort to locate the missing cargo ship.

"The case is managed by the Putrajaya MRCC who will inform us if there are any leads or latest developments regarding the vessel MV Dai Cat 06," he said in a brief statement today

Nurul Hizam was commenting on the missing MV Dai Cat 06 that left the Kampung Aceh jetty in Perak on December 23 and should have arrived in Kuching, Sarawak on December 31.

On Tuesday, Malay Mail reported the case of the missing cargo ship after the Johor MMEA revealed that the ship's agent had made a police report the day before.

Reports said that the cargo ship did not arrive in Kuching, Sarawak as scheduled, even after 31 December.

However, the cargo ship’s last known location was detected through the Automatic Identification System (AIS) on January 1 in Indonesian waters, 0.2 nautical miles from Johor’s maritime borders.

Information obtained at 10.42pm Monday through the vessel’s Emergency Position Indicator Radio Beacon (EPIRB) signal positioned it about 30 nautical miles northwest of Pemankat, Indonesia.

The emergency signal was detected by the Malaysia Mission Control Centre (MYMCC) and Singapore's Police Operation Command Centre (POCC).

MV Dai Cat 06 is a 52 metre-long vessel carrying 527 iron bar pipes worth RM726,205. The vessel is manned by five crew members, including three locals and two Indonesian, aged between 20 and 57.
