KOTA KINABALU, Jan 9 — Prime Minister Datuk Anwar Ibrahim has arrived in Sabah with plans of smoothing things over with the state government.
He flew in directly from Jakarta where he was on his first official visit abroad earlier.
He was greeted by chief minister and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah chairman Datuk Hajiji Noor and well as other GRS, Pakatan Harapan and Parti Warisan leaders.
He is expected to meet with Hajiji at the latter’s official residence before meeting with Sabah Umno chief Datuk Bung Moktar Radin and other Umno leaders later.
The state government has been in turmoil since Friday night after the majority of Sabah Umno’s assemblymen withdrew support for Hajiji.
Hajiji recouped support quickly by maintaining five out of 17 of Sabah Umno’s assemblymen, plus Pakatan Harapan’s seven assemblymen. He now claims to have 44 assemblymen backing him, more than half of the 79-seat state assembly.
As of last night, Bung has refused to concede defeat, saying that the game was still on.
