KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 7 — There is reportedly no immigration record for the Russian couple, Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus, who went viral after posting videos and images of themselves at the top of Merdeka 118.
Utusan Malaysia today quoted an anonymous source as saying that authorities are still investigating the details of the matter, including the possibility that the couple illegally entered Malaysia.
“So far, the investigation gathers that the two individuals are not in the country.
“Inspections found that there was no record of them entering or leaving the immigration system,” the source reportedly said when contacted yesterday.
The source reportedly said that closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at the Merdeka 118 tower also did not capture any sign of the couple.
“We have also called nine individuals, including staff and workers at the tower, after the trespassing went viral,” the source was quoted as saying.
The source reportedly added that the couple’s viral video has been sent for forensic analysis to Cyber Security Malaysia, which is under the Ministry of Communications and Digital.
On December 27, a photo of Beerkus and Nikolau on top of the high-rise was posted on SkyscraperCity.com, while videos of the stunt were posted on Nikolau’s Twitter page on December 29.
Earlier today, Nikolau posted on Twitter that an image of her on top of Merdeka 118 had sold as a non-fungible token (NFT) for 7.67 units of the cryptocurrency Ethereum.
A conversion on coinbase.com showed that at the time of writing, 7.67 Ethereum is worth approximately RM42,836.
