KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 4 — Authorities have promised a thorough and transparent investigation into the alleged rape of a 16-year-old victim by a police inspector assigned to her case in Alor Setar, Kedah.
Kedah police chief Datuk Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad said the suspect has been remanded until January 5 to assist in the investigation under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
"To ensure the investigation of the case is completed at the earliest, a thorough investigation is conducted by senior officers from the Kedah contingent headquarters and Kedah police is giving our guarantee the probe is done fairly and in a transparent manner.
"The complete investigation paper will be submitted to prosecutors for further action so the perpetrator can be brought to face justice even though he is part of our uniformed personnel," he said in a statement.
According to Wan Hassan, the incident is believed to have taken place on December 28 around 6.25pm after the victim had gone to the police station to meet with the suspect in order to complete an ongoing investigation involving a rape case perpertrated by the victim's stepfather.
The victim is believed to have been raped by the inspector while she was at the latter's office at the Yan police district headquarters.
She subsequently lodged a report on December 31.
