BATANG KALI, Dec 24 — The body of the last victim of the landslide incident at the Father’s Organic Farm campsite here, was found inside a sleeping bag at a depth of 1.5 metres at 4.53 pm today.

Hulu Selangor police chief Supt Suffian Abdullah said the body of the boy aged between seven and 12 was found face down on the hillside about four metres from the campsite in sector A (hillview).

The body was fully clothed but had started to decompose, he said adding that it was taken to Sungai Buloh Hospital for post-mortem.

“The search and rescue (SAR) operation will continue for flushing and investigation at the site to ensure that the area is really safe.

“If there is no latest development, we will announce the status of the operation tomorrow,” he told a press conference here.

Meanwhile, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) deputy director Wan Md Razali Md Wan Ismail said the last victim was found after being manually dug up by rescue personnel who detected the flow of liquid, believed to be from the body.

He said in total, 20 bodies were found in Sector A, one in Sector B (the farm view camp) and 10 in Sector C (riverside).

A Bernama check at the incident area control centre (PKTK) at 7.20 tonight found that SAR rescuers entered the search location to clean up the area.

The landslide tragedy that struck at 2.42am on December 16 claimed 31 lives and with 61 people rescued out of a total of 92 victims reported in the incident.

The SAR operation involves the cooperation of five main agencies, namely the Royal Malaysia Police, the Malaysian Armed Forces, JBPM, the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) and the Civil Defence Force (APM) with a strength of over 250 personnel. — Bernama
