KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17 — There will be no motion for a vote of confidence for Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad in the Perak State Legislative Assembly sitting this Monday, its Speaker Datuk Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid reportedly said.
Utusan Malaysia quoted him saying the state assembly will not emulate the same move scheduled for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the Dewan Rakyat, despite the same alliance between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional at the state level.
“There will be no vote of confidence or no confidence in this session, in Parliament it may be a little different but not in the state assembly,” he was quoted saying.
“If you ask me as the speaker, after the general election the mentri besar has been appointed under the authority of the Sultan, in the state assembly there is no need to propose a vote of confidence or no confidence.
“The motion is not necessary, not to mention at the First Meeting especially after the election unless there is a change of mentri besar during that period, only then can a vote of confidence motion be brought in the House to strengthen the mentri besar's position,” he added,
After the 15th general election (GE15) Pakatan Harapan which won 24 seats in Perak allied with Barisan Nasional which won nine seats to form the government, denying Perikatan Nasional which won 26 seats.
