KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 — Twenty-two people are still missing from a campsite in Batang Kali, Selangor following a pre-dawn landslide today, the Fire and Rescue Department said in an 11.41am update.
It also confirmed that 12 people have died in the landslide that occurred on an alternative road to Genting Highlands in Pahang, near Gohtong Jaya.
“The search and rescue operation for the missing victims is still ongoing,” it said in a Facebook post, adding that out of 94 estimated victims, 59 people were safe, while one person was injured.
There have been conflicting news reports about the number of casualties.
In a press conference at Selayang Hospital, Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the number of fatalities at 11am stood at 13.
Search and rescue operations have been going on since about 3am today after authorities received a distress call at 2.24am.
