KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 — The death toll in this morning’s Batang Kali landslide stands at 16 people as at 1pm, the Ministry of Development and Local Government announced this afternoon.
It added in a Twitter post that 61 out of 94 people are safe and that 17 people are still missing.
Separately, the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia posted on Facebook that the 16 dead comprised three men, 10 women, two boys, and a girl.
It also said that one of the 61 people rescued was injured.
“The search-and-rescue operation is still ongoing,” it said.
Separately, news portal Malaysian Gazette reported this afternoon that five more bodies have been found.

The five deceased have not been named but comprise three women, one man and one girl.
The landslide was reported to have occurred after midnight at a campsite near the Father’s Organic Farm in Batang Kali, on the alternative road to Genting Highlands in Pahang near Gohtong Jaya.
The authorities were reported to have been alerted at about 3am and have been carrying out a search-and-rescue operation since.
