KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14 — Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has denied any wrongdoing and said he will face Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in court in reply to the latter’s defamation allegation against him.
“See you in court lah... we will talk about history,” Sanusi wrote on his Facebook page last night.
He also attached a copy of the reply letter from his law firm Messrs Yusfarizal Aziz & Zaid to Anwar’s legal demand, blaming a news article published by Malaysiakini for the supposed defamatory remarks.
“The news article published by Malaysiakini titled Kes liwat Anwar: Dulu kesian sungguh, sekarang PAS kata kena ‘pikiaq’ dated November 14 and the video posted to Malaysiakini’s official YouTube account is not within our client’s control.
“As such, if there is any narration, additional facts, or comments that could lead to elements of defamation, was made by Malaysiakini and is not in our client’s control,” the letter from the law firm representing Sanusi read.
“In this situation, we have the instructions from our client to inform Anwar that we collectively reject all allegations that were stated in the demand letter,” it added.
Anwar sent Sanusi a legal letter on December 12 demanding a retraction, an apology and a promise not to repeat certain remarks said to be defamatory against him that was reportedly uttered during an election campaign speech in Tambun, Perak last month.
Anwar also demanded compensation.
Lawyers for the PKR president filed a defamation suit at the High Court in Alor Setar, Kedah yesterday.
In his lawsuit, Anwar alleged that Sanusi’s remarks surrounding his royal pardon and release from prison while on the stump for Perikatan Nasional during the 15th general election last month had defamed and tarnished his reputation as a respectable leader.
