JOHOR BARU, Dec 13 — The state government has allocated RM1.5 million to carry out paint works under the Johor Baru City Beautification project, which is part of The Greater Johor Baru initiative.

Johor Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said works have started early this month and are expected to be completed byMarch next year.

He said the work will be carried out in several phases, involving five main zones with 410 business premises.

"Zone one involves 107 premises, zone two (128 premises), zone 3 (77 premises), zone four (63 premises) and zone five (35 premises).

"The project is to refurbish old premises around the city centre here that involves buildings owned by individuals,” Mohd Jafni said in a statement last night.

Mohd Jafni, who is the Bukit Permai assemblyman, said the buildings involved are located on Jalan Ibrahim, Jalan Dhoby, Jalan Tan Hiok Nee, Jalan Trus, Jalan Pahang, Jalan Wong Ah Fook, Jalan Ungku Puan, Jalan Meldrum, Jalan Seget, Jalan Siew Nam, Jalan Siu Chin, Jalan Ngee Heng and Jalan Wong Ah Fook.

He explained that the idea of ​​painting and beautifying buildings in the city centre here was the brainchild of Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi during a state cleanliness programme here in July.

"The purpose of this beautification programme is not only to beautify the building but to also give a good impression and turn it into an attraction for tourists when they arrive in Johor Baru city.

"This work is also done under The Greater Johor Baru initiative, which not only upgrades facilities but also involves beautification," said Mohd Jafni.
