GEORGE TOWN, Dec 13 — The Michelin Guide will be unveiling the 2023 list of Penang food operators that were awarded Michelin stars tonight, said state exco Yeoh Soon Hin.
The tourism and creative economy committee chairman said the renowned food guide will name restaurants or hawkers in Penang that have been given the coveted Michelin star rating.
"The Michelin star plays a prominent role in the tourism industry as it is a catalyst to further develop Penang as an international gourmet haven,” he said in a statement today.
He believed that this will spur the food tourism in Penang, which is in line with the state’s tourism master plan.
He said the the tourism industry is more competitive post-pandemic so Penang has to bank on its strengths to capture the international tourism market.
The Michelin Guide is expected to announce the list of Michelin star winners during an award ceremony at Berjaya Hotel Kuala Lumpur tonight.
