PASIR GUDANG, Dec 10 — The Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) has installed the smart pole system in industrial, community and river areas to monitor and detect pollution activities.
MBPG Mayor Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman said the smart pole is equipped with many features, including a closed-circuit camera (CCTV) and sensors to detect air quality.
The parameters that can be detected with this sensor include the pH, ammonia and nitrate and an alarm that will warn if there is pollution, he added.
He said the device can not only detect water pollution, but also air and noise pollution.
“If the impact sensor exceeds the parameters and is dangerous for the residents, the alarm will go off. It also has a camera that will take pictures of individuals who cause pollution,” he told reporters at the launch of the Sungai Buloh Rehabilitation here today.
Also present was Marine And Heavy Engineering Holdings Berhad (MHB) managing director Pandai Othman.
According to Asman Shah, 10 hot spot locations, including Sungai Kim Kim, have been installed with the smart pole since last month and MBPG is targeting to install the smart pole at another 200 locations next year.
Earlier MBPG and MHB signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to implement the Sungai Buluh Rehabilitation Programme.
Pandai said the programme would be carried out as part of MHB’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities. — Bernama
