KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 5 — Pakatan Harapan (PH) will be getting help from two senior Umno leaders in its Padang Serai campaign trail in Kedah tonight as the “unity government” kicks off a new era in Malaysian political cooperation.

Deputy Prime Minister I Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Kedah Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom will be sharing the stage with PH leaders in a mega ceramah at the Kampung Tunku Putra public field in Kelang Lama, Kulim, scheduled to start at 9pm.

They will be speaking alongside PH leaders such as PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli, PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu.

This is the first PH ceramah that Zahid and BN leaders will be attending in support of a PH candidate since the formation of the unity government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

BN’s former Padang Serai candidate Datuk C. Sivarraajh will also be speaking at the ceramah in support of PH’s candidate, Mohamad Sofee Razak.

Sivarraajh had dropped out of the Padang Serai election last week after PH gave way to BN for the Tioman state seat in Pahang.

Other leaders who will be speaking tonight included Kedah PH chairman Datuk Mahfuz Omar, Kedah DAP chairman Tan Kok Yew and Kedah PH election director Datuk Zamri Yusuf.

The Padang Serai election was deferred to December 7 after the incumbent and PH’s first candidate M. Karupaiya died three days before polling was to take place on November 19.

There will be a three-corner fight between PH, Perikatan Nasional’s Azman Nasruddin and an independent candidate, Ananda AK.
