KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 — Digital Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil today said he wants Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor to be investigated over claims of vote buying.

In a TikTok video posted to his social media this evening, Fahmi requested that the authorities, including the police and the Election Commission (EC), probe Muhammad Sanusi over statements he made at a rally in Padang Serai.

"I believe that his statement is very dangerous and should be investigated by the police and the Election Commission,” he said.

He expressed a fear of money politics becoming more commonplace and becoming acceptable through terms and definitions.

Such bribes may be masked or disguised as funds for voters to return to their respective hometowns to vote, he added.

He was referring to a video recording of Muhammad Sanusi during a rally in Padang Serai last Friday night, in which he complained about Perikatan Nasional (PN) voters asking for money for transport (duit minyak) for votes.

According to a report by Malaysiakini, the PN elections director told voters not to be calculative and attributed PN’s loss in the 15th general elections (GE15) to voters being calculative, saying that the mentality caused PN’s "victory” to be "taken away”.

"Those who opposed us returned from Taiwan, China, Singapore, the US, and Australia, they didn’t ask for a single sen for transport. They voted for (Pakatan) Harapan and destroyed us.

"But you folks, (asked for) RM50 (inaudible), made videos, showed it to people. It’s embarrassing!” he reportedly shouted in the video.

Early voting for the Padang Serai Parliamentary seat ended yesterday and polling day will be on Dec 7.

The election for the Kedah constituency was postponed following the death of Pakatan Harapan candidate M. Karupaiya who died at the age of 69 on November 16 of a suspected heart attack and health complications.
