KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 — Former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob denied claims of unrecorded government expenditure during his tenure as Malaysia's top government official.

He said a total of RM530 billion was spent and had been recorded in the government accounts from 2020-2022, comprising eight government packages.

“I'd like to stress that these allegations are not true and that all government expenditures have been recorded in the government's statement of accounts.

“A large portion of the RM530 billion for the eight stimulus packages did not involve government expenditure (for example the bank moratoriums). The government's direct expenditure was RM110 billion and that allocation had been agreed on unanimously by Parliament,” he said in a Facebook post late last night.

He was responding to a Twitter post by one Yusoff Bachek under the @mohayusba account that claimed RM620 billion of government spending between 2020 and 2022 went unrecorded in the Treasury Department's books.

The Twitter user claimed the expenditure happened during the tenure of the eighth and ninth prime ministers Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Ismail Sabri from 2020-2022.

He further claimed that was the reason Ismail Sabri and Muhyiddin were trying hard not to let anyone else besides them become the new prime minister after the 15th general election.
