JOHOR BARU, Nov 25 ― The Johor government today announced this Sunday (Nov 27) an occasional public holiday in the state in conjunction with the success of the Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) football team advancing to the 2022 Malaysia Cup final.

Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the state government also agreed for this Monday (November 28) to also be a public holiday following an announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday.

He thanked the Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar for His Majesty’s consent to celebrate JDT’s success and also to the Tunku Mahkota of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim for inspiring the “Orang Muda Johor” and supporting the state’s athletes.

“It’s also in appreciation of the solid support of the people of Johor and loyal supporters of the Southern Tigers,” he said on his official Facebook today.

Meanwhile, State Secretary Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani, in a statement today, stated that the occasional public holiday was given to make it easier for supporters to watch the next match, as well as enable them to plan their journey.

“The declaration of the holiday is in line with Sections 8 and 9 of the Holidays Act 1951 (Act 369),” he said. ― Bernama
