KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 — Following the announcement of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the 10th prime minister of Malaysia, Nurul Izzah Anwar said that the next challenges awaiting her father are uniting the different race groups in the country and addressing pressing economic issues.

“Challenges still await, and after the oath-taking ceremony later, what lies ahead are uniting our fellow countrymen, addressing the shackled economy, attracting foreign investment, and building a united nation that is multiracial and upholds social justice,” said Nurul in a Facebook post today.

Nurul, who is the eldest daughter of Anwar, also congratulated her father’s success in becoming the new prime minister after years of political struggles.

“Indeed, since 1998 until now, it’s our obligation to hold on to our political struggle, because demanding justice is not for ourselves but as a protection for all,” said Nurul.

“I love you, Papa and I am always proud of you,” said the former Permatang Pauh MP.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong announced this afternoon that Anwar has been appointed as the next prime minister after he had a meeting with other Sultans at the Conference of Rulers due to the political deadlock between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan National (PN).

PH won 82 seats and PN gained 73 seats in the latest 15th general election (GE15), both not passing the 112 seats of the simple majority needed to form a government, causing Malaysia to have a hung Parliament for the first time in history.

However, the King has ordered a unity government to be formed with an emphasis on unity and economic recovery in order to bring back stability to the country.
