GEORGE TOWN, Nov 24 — DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke did the right thing to restore good faith with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) by issuing an open apology, the party’s Penang chairman Chow Kon Yeow said today.
He added that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition is trying to form a unity government with the best interests of Malaysia and its people in mind.
“I think the secretary-general did the right thing to put the national agenda above party and personal feelings,” he told reporters at the state legislative assembly today.
Chow hoped that Loke’s open apology can restore good feelings among various parties, particularly between GPS and PH, especially its DAP component.
“I hope this can bring about the desired result of PH and other political parties being given the blessing to form the next federal government,” he added.
Chow was also asked how a PH and Barisan Nasional (BN federal government would affect the Penang government.
He said it is too early to talk about it at this point as none had been formed.
“We need to adjust and get used to a new realignment of political forces in the country, nationally, there are so many things to do so it has not come to that yet at state level,” he said.
Earlier today, Loke said he paid an official visit to Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Abang Openg at his house in Kuching this morning with Deputy Sarawak Premier Professor Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian present.
“We had a friendly discussion. I also told the premier that if there were any statement made by any DAP leader that hurt the feelings of the Sarawak government and its people, I, on behalf of DAP, offer an open apology,” Loke said in a statement.
Loke’s apology was followed shortly after by a similar statement from DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng.
