KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 — Tan Sri Annuar Musa has called for calm and asked his Facebook followers to abide by the decision made by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to appoint a new prime minister who will form the next federal government.
As such, Annuar said Muafakat Nasional, an NGO he formed right before being dropped as an Umno candidate in the 15th general election, would be activated in response to recent developments.
He said its goals would be to foster consensus, community unity and a better national political system centred on the Rukun Negara and Federal Constitution.
The former information and multimedia minister said the focus should now turn to a government that is authoritative and capable of bringing stability and prosperity to the people.
“All gatherings and activities that may lead to disharmony should be stopped,” he said in a statement today.
Annuar courted controversy with a Facebook posting recently.
The South China Morning Post yesterday reported Annuar — who is seen as having close ties to Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin — was forced to amend a Facebook post that some claimed fanned racial tensions amid the country’s political deadlock.
Annuar had shared an undated video, seemingly featuring a Taiwanese political rally with attendees wearing red attire.
Malaysian fact-checking initiative Faqcheck told This Week in Asia the video was of a 2019 rally by then-Taiwanese presidential candidate Han Kuo-yu.
Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was named the country’s 10th prime minister today.
Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin in a statement today said Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah had consented to the appointment, which was made in accordance with Article 40(2)(a) and Article 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution.
