KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 — Johor Umno deputy chief Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed has told newly-elected Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs openly critical of coalition chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to stop.
He said they should toe the line or resign and relinquish their seats, news portal The Vibes reported today.
“The party president reminded on Sunday that all parliamentarians who won the election have signed an Aku Janji pledge to give him the mandate to determine any political cooperation in the formation of the government.
“The BN chairman also stressed that any parliamentarian who goes against the party will have their membership dropped along with their seats in line with the anti-hopping law,” he was quoted as saying.
Nur Jazlan was the BN candidate for the Pulai parliamentary seat who lost to Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub in last Saturday’s national polls.
He said he had personally signed the pledge that the seat would belong to BN if he had won.
He reminded the rogue BN MPs that they were elected on account of their political affiliation, and should live up to it.
He also said some of these MPs were deliberately looking to be sacked so they could become independents and support a coalition and prime minister that was not endorsed by BN, but reminded that they have yet to be officially sworn in to Parliament.
Yesterday, Ahmad Zahid and several senior BN leaders held a meeting with PH leaders in the Seri Pacific Hotel near the World Trade Centre here to discuss the possibility of cooperation between the two coalitions in forming the next federal government.
However, several BN MPs were against the move to join PH in forming a unity government.
Among the senior BN MPs was Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, who openly declared that he would rather be sacked than to have BN cooperate with PH in forming a new government.
