IPOH, Nov 21 — Perak Barisan Nasional (BN) led by former mentri besar Datuk Seri Saarani Ahmad will have an audience with state Ruler Sultan Nazrin Shah today amid a hung state assembly.
Malay daily Sinar Harian reported that the audience is believed to be related to the formation of a new state government after the general election (GE15) that concluded two days ago.
BN which won nine seats in the State Legislative Assembly was referred to as the ‘kingmaker’ in the formation of the government in the state after no party coalition obtained a simple majority to form the government.
The GE15 results announced on Saturday saw Perikatan Nasional (PN) successfully winning 26 seats out of a total of 59 state assembly seats while Pakatan Harapan (PH) won 24 seats.
Both PN and PH need the support of a coalition of other parties including BN to form a state government.
Perak PN Deputy Chairman Razman Zakaria had openly stated previously that the party was ready to discuss with BN to obtain a simple majority of 35 seats to form the state government.
