KUCHING, Nov 21 — Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) secretary-general Baru Bian appealed to state Premier Tan Abang Johari Openg and all Sarawak MPs against working with Perikatan Nasional (PN) to form the federal government.
He cited PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s previous remark blaming non-Muslims for the corruption scandals that besiege Malaysia, saying the man is purportedly a dangerous and self-serving politician who aims to sow hate and distrust among the ethnic groups.
“We are a multiracial and multi-religious society and we have managed to co-exist harmoniously for so long.
“This harmony is something we must preserve,” Baru, who is also Ba’Kelalan state assemblyman, said in a statement.
He was responding to Abang Johari’s statement yesterday that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) had agreed to form the federal government with PN, BN and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
“Sarawakians have not forgotten his insulting remarks that Sarawak indigenous community were ‘ignorant loincloth-wearing’ voters who did not know how to vote,” he said.
He said all Sarawak MPs, no matter their religion, should make a stand calling the state premier to reject a partnership with racists and religious bigots.
“Your constituents are watching you closely,” he added.
Earlier, PAS vowed not to implement any policies that would oppress the public should it be part of the federal government, as its PN coalition aims to get the support of the East Malaysian bloc in GPS and GRS.
PAS currently has the most number of seats in the Parliament among all political parties with 49 seats, with 27 of those contested under the banner of Perikatan Nasional (PN) rather than its own logo.
