IPOH, Nov 21 — Perak Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said that Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad’s statement that the coalition did not offer any role to Barisan Nasional (BN) in forming the state government was false.
Ahmad Faizal said that PN had also offered the Perak BN chairman the mentri besar post during their meeting on Sunday in Kuala Lumpur.
“Perak PN secretary Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin also attended the meeting. We discussed the possibility of PN and BN cooperation to establish the government in Perak.
“In that meeting, he also revealed his intention to hold the mentri besar post again and it was an important matter,” he said in a statement.
Ahmad Faizal said that he had told Saarani that PN is generous and open to cooperation.
“However, they insisted PN offer important positions in the state government.
“He requested to consult the Umno leadership before making any agreement,” he said, referring to Saarani.
Earlier today, the Kota Tampan assemblyman was sworn in as Perak mentri besar in front of Sultan Nazrin Muizzudin Shah at Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar.
Despite contributing the smallest amount of seats, Saarani was reappointed as the state’s mentri besar after receiving support from a total of 33 assembly members from both BN and its new partner Pakatan Harapan (PH).
Saarani in a press conference said that BN decided to work with PH as the latter offered the coalition a chance to hold top posts in the government, which included the mentri besar post and three state executive councillors posts.
He said PN failed to offer any position to BN in the state government.
