SUBANG JAYA, Nov 20 — With no clear winner in the 15th general election, Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has insisted his coalition, being the largest bloc, has obtained the numbers needed to form the federal government with a simple majority.
Acknowledging the fact that no single political party has crossed the threshold of 112 seats in Parliament, he asserted that PH has already secured the support to help the coalition reach a simple majority.
“We conducted a series of meetings, and as a result, we have obtained the majority. Majority means more than 111.
“National parties, regional parties, I don’t think it’s proper now, we have all the documents ready but we will respect the due process to first submit to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” he said.
When reporters pressed him for the exact number of seats, Anwar only reiterated his assertion that PH has the support needed to reach a simple majority.
“What is important to understand, we have crossed the 112 seats now, that’s important, alright? Thank you,” he said at a press conference held at Grand Dorsett Subang here.
Anwar also declined to disclose which political parties PH would partner to form a coalition government, stating that he was not in a position to divulge such information on behalf of others.
When asked if Gabungan Parti Sarawak was one possible partner, Anwar merely stated that he wished for the participation of all parties so that it becomes more inclusive.
On Muhyiddin’s claim that the Perikatan Nasional coalition was poised to form the next government despite winning just 73 seats so far, Anwar said “it cannot be, it is impossible for him to do so because we have in writing and we will notify the palace accordingly”.
“I am discussing based on facts, not rumours,” he added.
