KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 19 — Several roads around Istana Negara will be closed from tonight until further notice, Brickfields police chief ACP Amihizam Abdul Shukor said today.
In a statement this evening, Amilhizam said the road closures were to ensure the 15th general election takes place smoothly.
He said the Brickfields district police headquarters and Kuala Lumpur Department of Traffic Investigation and Enforcement had decided the affected road will be Jalan Tunku Abdul Halim from Kuala Lumpur heading past the Jalan Duta plaza toll.
"There will be cutoffs at several roads close to Istana Negara.
"The roads leading to Istana Negara from Pusat Bandaraya and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim to Jalan Semantan, the entrance ramp from Jalan Semantan to Jalan Changkat Semantan, as well as Jalan Semantan to Jalan Tunku Halim will be closed.
"All road users particularly those around Kuala Lumpur are requested to plan their journeys to avoid any inconvenience due to road detours following the closure of the roads during GE15,” he said.
Polling today officially closed at 6pm.
