IPOH, Nov 19 — Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who is seeking re-election to the Tambun parliamentary seat in the 15th general election, has cast his vote at Sekolah Agama Rendah Al-Ithidayah in Tambun here.

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) deputy president, who was accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Dr Nomee Ashikin Mohammed Radzi, arrived with at the polling station at about 7.55am.

They cast their votes at 8.01am and exited the polling station at 8.05am.

When met by reporters outside the polling station, Ahmad Faizal said he is feeling positive and confident about his chances.

“To be very honest after two weeks of campaigning, I believe there is a wave across the country supporting Perikatan Nasional, which is very encouraging. We believe we can cause an upset today,” he said.

Earlier, Ahmad Faizal and his wife chatted briefly with voters who had arrived at the polling station as early as 7am.

Ahmad Faizal will be defending his seat against Pakatan Harapan (PH) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from PKR, Tambun Umno division chief Datuk Aminnudin Md Hanifiah (Barisan Nasional) and Gerakan Tanah Air’s Abdul Rahim Tahir from Pejuang.

Anwar, who is also the PKR president, will not be voting in Tambun. He will instead be casting his vote at SK Sri Penanti in Permatang Pauh.

Aminnudin will be casting his vote at the polling station set up in SK Tanah Hitam, Chemor.

It is not known at the time of writing where Abdul Rahim will be casting his vote.

The Tambun constituency comprises 71.2 per cent Bumiputera, 18.1 per cent Chinese, and 10.3 per cent Indian, with other races making up the balance.

A total of 160,558 Tambun voters — or 155,802 normal voters, 4,734 early voters as well as 22 absentee voters (overseas) — are eligible to cast their ballots in GE15.
