KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 — Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin were top two choices to lead the Malay nationalist party after the 15th general election, a survey of over 1,000 voters in Peninsular Malaysia showed.

In a statement dated today, Endeavour-MGC said the survey of randomly selected 1,068 registered voters in Peninsular Malaysia from November 7 to November 15 showed that these two Umno leaders were in the lead, ahead of current president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, and former vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

“Turning to leadership of key parties, Ismail Sabri and Khairy Jamaluddin continued to maintain the 1st and 2nd spots respectively with 28 per cent and 25 per cent of respondents feeling that these two leaders were best placed to lead Umno.

“Hishamuddin Hussein was marginally ahead at third with 12 per cent with Mohamad Hasan and Ahmad Zahid Hamidi trailing at 12 per cent and 7 cent respectively,” the statement said.

The statement also put the November findings of the Peninsular Malaysia-only survey side by side with the findings of its earlier nationwide survey which was completed on October 20. The statement did not say how many respondents were polled in the earlier survey.

It is unclear why a nationwide survey was not carried out in November itself to enable a direct comparison to the nationwide survey in October.
