KUCHING, Nov 14 — Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman today called out Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen’s apparent memory loss about the number of federal-funded projects worth billions of ringgit that had been cancelled during Pakatan Harapan’s 22-month long administration.
He was responding to Chong’s challenge to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders to name the federal-funded projects that had been cancelled in 2018 after PH occupied Putrajaya.
“Chong is either very forgetful or pretends to forget that that the PH government did cancel projects in Sarawak shortly after taking power in Putrajaya,” said Fazzrudin, who is also chief political secretary to Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.
He said Chong had previously admitted to the termination of those infrastructure projects approved by Barisan Nasional (BN) that the latter had also labelled “hot air projects” in 2018.
“This was after he failed to fulfill his own promise of getting these projects continued, saying that he would bring it up personally to his party boss, then DAP secretary-general and finance minister Lim Guan Eng to get these projects continued,” he said.
Fazzrudin said he could only speculate that Chong’s demands were shot down by his political masters when the projects were discontinued.
“His excuse then was that the cut in the budget for several projects was a necessary action to save the country from bankruptcy,” the GPS politician said.
“As far as the people of Sarawak are concerned, we do not forgive nor forget DAP and PH over their harsh treatment of Sarawak, despite their denial,” he added.
At a press conference yesterday, Chong challenged Abang Johari to specify the projects that GPS has asserted to have been cancelled by the PH government.
