JOHOR BARU, Nov 13 — Police arrested a 28-year-old man believed to be involved in burning a political party’s operation’s tent in Batu Pahat late yesterday.
Johor police contingent’s 15th general election (GE15) media spokesman Superintendent Ibrahim Mat Som said the suspect, who is a local, was arrested after authorities received a report regarding the incident at 10.37pm.
“The Batu Pahat district police headquarters received a report regarding an act of treachery involving the burning of a tent at the MIC operations room in Taman Mutiara, Batu Pahat.
“Quick action by policemen helped apprehend the suspect in the area. He was suspected to be drunk when police detained him,” Ibrahim said in a statement.
Ibrahim said a remand application against the suspect will be made today and the case will be investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code for the destruction of a premise by fire or any explosive substance.
