REMBAU, Nov 12 — Buyers of 1Malaysia Housing Programme (PR1MA) in Rantau could expect to see their homes soon as construction was 88.69 per cent completed, said Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman and Rembau parliamentary seat candidate said the buyers of 630 these PR1MA homes would no longer have to feel as though they were paying for something that not be delivered.

“These house buyers have been paying instalment even when the project has been abandoned since 2018,” said Mohamad, who was also the Rantau assemblyman.

“I’m glad that this evening we are able to gather here with them and the salvage contractor to give an update on the housing project status.

“I was often asked about this issue and I thought maybe it’s best that I bring all relevant parties here today to clarify one and for all,” Mohamad told reporters after his meet with the PR1MA buyers in Taman Bandar Ekar here.

The Umno leader commonly called Tok Mat expressed satisfaction when he saw that the project has resumed constructions since it was abandoned after the Pakatan Harapan (PH) won the election in 2018.

“Although there physically it’s still an ongoing progress, it’s better than before because it was then abandoned since PH won the election in 2018 and all projects that are similar like this were stopped.

“Whichever project has 1Malaysia tagged to it, all have been stopped. I don’t know the reason behind this, maybe they don’t want to see BN’s legacy being continued but they did not take into account that the their actions will burden the people especially with the rising cost of living,” said Mohamad.

He added that the PR1MA projects were suspended and abandoned throughout the 22-month duration of PH as federal government.

He said, it was only when Perikatan Nasional (PN) took over as government that the project in Rantau was revived.

“But when it was revived in July 2020, Covid-19 hit the country and works had to stop.

“It took more than a year for the salvage contractor to finally get the project going as they needed fix previous defects caused by the previous contractor.

“Now we can see that the project is getting on smoothly with only less than 20 per cent that is left for completion and this includes infrastructure.

“I hope that the burden of the buyers will end here especially when they bought these property to be close to me, as mentioned by the homebuyer representative of the project. I feel upset about this,” he said.

Rantau was part of the Malaysia Vision Valley plan but was not materialised when BN lost the 2018 election.

The Malaysia Vision Valley is an integrated economic region completing the development of greater Kuala Lumpur.
