IPOH, Nov 11 — PKR’s Kuala Sepetang state seat candidate Datuk Zainal Azman Abu Seman today said he is capable of serving the people in Perak be it merely as an assemblyman, or if given other positions or responsibilities.
After party deputy president Rafizi Ramli confirmed him as the party’s choice for the Perak mentri besar post should Pakatan Harapan (PH) wins election, he already has an experience as a civil servant.
“Yes the party deputy president has announced it, but I think that the candidacy for the post depends on the outcome of the general election,” he told an online press conference here.
“I wish PH can win 35 state seats out of the 59. Maybe there will be other candidates who can be considered by the PH presidential council.
“However, with my experience that I have as a civil servant, I am able to contribute to the state, be it as an assemblyman or other positions,” he added.
Zainal Azman, who is a former Public Service Department deputy director-general and former Perak state secretary, also stressed that the matter pertaining to the mentri besar candidacy should be decided by the party’s central leadership.
Zainal Azman was announced by party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently as one of the seven “high-profile” PH candidates for the election.
Rafizi reportedly confirmed that Zainal Azman would be Perak PH’s mentri besar candidate if the coalition wins the election.
However, Perak PKR chief Chang Lih Kang tried later to downplay the matter by saying it was premature to discuss the topic before winning the state election.
Last Friday, Anwar, who is also PH’s president, clarified that the coalition has not decided who would be its mentri besar were it to win the state during the 15th general election.
When asked if it would the Zainal Azman, Anwar said the PH presidential council would still have to discuss the matter.
