KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 — The 15th general election (GE15) is less than two weeks away and political parties are lining the streets with party flags, banners, and posters to show their presence.

But Batu independent candidate Nur Fathiah Syazwana Shaharuddin, better known by her moniker “Cleo”, has taken a more unusual approach to her campaign, opting to use trees as her campaign material — just like her logo on the ballot paper.

“Many people have asked me where my flags are, where my banners are. If you need to know, all these trees are my flags, all these trees are my banners.

“Every street and area have trees. Remember trees, remember me,” she said in a TikTok video.

Since posting the video, many social media users have praised her for knowing how to save cost, minimise wastage, and not falling into the norm of putting up flags that hinder traffic.

“Not a fan of hers but this is clever. Eco-friendly, and not wasting. Everywhere got pokok,” a Twitter user @yuliyanaayusuf said.

Twitter user @lenedelr also praised Nur Fathiah for giving “not only a good pitch,” but also keeping it “sustainable and frugal.”

Nur Fathiah is a social media personality, entrepreneur, founder of non-governmental organisation Hetero Action Women Alliance (Hawa), and a single mother of two children.

She is more well known by the name “Cleopatra”, which she previously used on her social media accounts.

The Batu parliamentary seat will see a colourful contest with 10 candidates vying for the seat in the capital city, with six political parties and four independent candidates involved.
