KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 — DAP deputy chairman Gobind Singh Deo called out today the caretaker ministers for transport and finance for staying silent over the sudden one-week suspension of RapidKL’s Kelana Jaya Light Rail Transit (LRT) line.

He said an independent inquiry must be carried out, as well as a comprehensive report that lists the reasons for the disruption to prevent the incident from repeating itself.

“I also call upon caretaker prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri to speak up. This is a huge problem (that) demands an immediate response.

“He must tell us what steps will be taken by the caretaker government to assist the thousands of commuters who will be affected over the next week,” Gobind said on Facebook.

In the early hours of this morning, public transport provider Rapid KL announced that it was temporarily suspending operations at 16 stations on the Kelana Jaya LRT line for one week from today until November 15 (Tuesday).

Prasarana’s top leaders held a press conference today to explain the decision behind the train services’ closure, but Opposition politicians and commuters alike were quick to point out that caretaker transport minister Datuk Wee Ka Siong has yet to comment on the crisis.

Wee’s latest Facebook update at 2.15pm this afternoon showed a livestream of the MCA president on his campaign trail in Ayer Hitam, Johor.

The livestream’s comment section was flooded with user comments, asking him to resolve the issues with the LRT.

Meanwhile, Prasarana has said that 73 free feeder buses have been deployed at various train stations along the Kelana Jaya line to help commuters with their journeys.

The Selangor government also announced that it will deploy 20 Smart Selangor buses to ferry commuters affected by the temporary suspension of services.
