LARUT, Nov 9 — Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has today expressed his coalition’s confidence that Perlis will be falling into its hands in this election.
Backing an earlier call by its chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the incumbent Larut MP said the coalition has a fighting chance thanks to the defection of former Umno warlord Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim who is now competing under PN’s banner.
“I am confident to say that we will take over Perlis with a figure like Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim leading the line fighting for the fate of the people in Perlis,” he said, referring to Shahidan who was dropped by Umno and now will be contesting under PN’s banner.
Earlier today, PN chairman Muhyiddin reportedly said that there is a convincing wave of support in Perlis and expressed his confidence in winning the three parliamentary seats there — Arau, Kangar and Padang Besar.
Muhyiddin also suggested that PN’s so-called wave of support will continue to gain momentum when the date for polling gets close.
Shahidan has since been sacked from his party Umno.
