KUCHING, Nov 7 — Parti Sarawak Bersatu’s (PSB) candidate for Bandar Kuching Voon Lee Shan today criticised Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen for telling PSB to withdraw its candidates from contesting in the 15th general election (GE15) in Sarawak.

He said it should be the DAP that should instead withdraw its candidates contesting in Sarawak.

“There are three reasons why it should withdraw. First, DAP, being a foreign party, has no business in Sarawak and it was never the intention of our forefathers to have any Malaya political parties setting foot here.

“They are aliens to Sarawakians,” Voon, who is Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president, but was using the PSB logo to contest, said when asked to respond to Chong’s remarks.

Voon claimed the parliamentary seats in Sarawak were meant for political parties from the state and not those from the peninsula.

“Sarawak is only given 31 out of 222 seats in parliament and the seat won by political parties from Malaya is a seat taken by Malaya,” he said.

Voon said it would be better for DAP and political parties from the peninsula to solve the economic, social and political problems there first before getting involved in Sarawak.

“The problems in Malaya can cause the collapse of the nation and it is better for political parties from Malaya like DAP, PKR, Amanah and PAS to use their energies and resources to clear the mess there,” he said.

Voon, who is a former DAP asemblyman for Batu Lintang, urged Chong and his colleagues in Sarawak to resign from the party and join local political parties.

He said Sarawakians prefer to support local parties as shown by the results of last year’s 12th state election, in which the DAP only managed to win two while PSB secured for four seats.

Earlier today, Chong, who is defending his Stampin seat, described PSB as a spoiler to split the Opposition vote and should withdraw from the general election.

He also said PSB has no national platform, without a firm stance or clear direction.
