JOHOR BARU, Oct 6 — The Johor police contingent has approved a total of 58 permits for political talks and activities throughout the state for 14 days of campaigning during the 15th general election (GE15) period.

Johor police GE15 media spokesman Superintendent Ibrahim Mat Som said the total figure was based on 47 applications by political parties that were received by the state police.

“The Johor police advises all political parties and their supporters to always adhere to the provisions of the law that have been set.

“They are also reminded to respect other participating parties throughout the GE15 campaigning period,” he said in a statement on police updates in Johor for GE15.

Ibrahim said the overall security and safety situation in the state is under control as of today.

Since yesterday, he said police have not received any reports on unwanted incidents.

“If there are any problems that arise, participating parties can refer to the police for appropriate action,” said Ibrahim.

Meanwhile, Johor police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the contingent expressed its appreciation to all political parties involved in yesterday’s nomination process in Johor.

He also acknowledged the efforts by election officers as well as party supporters for their compliance with the law and maturity that ensured a smooth nomination process in the state.

“The Johor police hopes that all parties will continue good practices to ensure peace and order towards polling day on November 19,” said Kamarul Zaman.
