IPOH, Nov 4 — The son of Tronoh incumbent Paul Yong Choo Kiong, who was convicted of raping his former Indonesian domestic helper three years ago, is set to defend his father’s seat in the 15th general election.

Bryan Yong Wu Sean, 25, will be contesting the state seat in Perak under the Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) banner.

Wu Sean’s candidacy was announced today by PBM’s communication and information department via a statement.

The law graduate is the only PBM candidate to contest the state seat in the peninsula for this election.

In the previous general election, Yong, who won the Tronoh seat under the ticket of DAP, defected to PBM.

However, in July the Ipoh High Court sentenced Yong to 13 years’ jail and two strokes of the cane after finding him guilty of raping his former Indonesian domestic helper three years ago.

Yong will not be able to contest the upcoming election pending his appeal on the conviction.
