KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 — Social activist Kuan Chee Heng has announced his bid to contest the Puchong federal seat as an independent candidate in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).
Kuan, commonly called "Uncle Kentang”, made the announcement through a posting on his Facebook page.
"I am offering an alternative voice for the people of Puchong. I humbly offer myself as an independent candidate in P103 Puchong. Let the people of Puchong obtain a real voice.
"The people of Puchong have an alternative choice. A voice that could truly represent all of you.
"Vote for someone who is easily met and can represent you as one citizen to another," he said.
Kuan made his electoral debut in the Semenyih by-election in 2019.
In the posting, Kuan also listed his credentials, among others including his experience as the head of a Parent Teachers Association for over 14 years and who therefore understood the society's need.
"I am no politician but an ordinary citizen who understands when Mak Cik Kiah has no money to pay for her children's bus fare, when Mak Cik Kiah has no money to pay for her utilities, when Mak Cik Kiah needs an ambulance, when Mak Cik Kiah needs a hospital bed, I have it," he added.
DAP Selangor chief Gobind Singh Deo is the incumbent three-term MP for Puchong.
Gobind will be vacating the seat to seek re-election at the Damansara seat and incumbent Bakri MP Yeo Bee Yin will take Gobind's place in the 15th general election.
