IPOH, November 3 — Perak PKR chairman Chang Lih Kang dodged questions about Pakatan Harapan’s candidate to be the mentri besar by saying the focus must be on winning the 15th general election first.

Chang said the party has several candidates who were eligible for the mentri besar post.

“However, this is not the right to talk about it. We can decide the mentri besar candidacy after winning the election,” he told a press conference after unveiling the Perak PKR state seat candidates at Travelodge Hotel here.

Earlier, PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli reportedly said that the party’s Kuala Sepetang candidate, Datuk Zainal Azman Abu Seman, would be PH’s mentri besar candidate if the coalition won the election.

When asked about Rafizi’s remarks, Chang insisted that the matter was premature before the election was won.

Zainal Azman, who is the former Public Service Department deputy director-general and former Perak state-secretary, was announced by party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as one of the seven high profile Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates.

Separately, Chang also said the party’s main agenda after winning the election would be tabling the anti-hopping law in the state assembly.

“The mandate given by the people have been betrayed. At federal level the law has been tabled and passed.

“I hope the state will also follow suit right after the election is over. So that there won’t be any issue of representatives defecting parties,” he said.

Chang also that all PKR candidates contesting in the state have taken oath that they will not defect or betray the party.
