KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 — Five parliamentary candidates went unannounced by Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during its 15th general election (GE15) candidate announcement ceremony at the World Trade Centre last night.
The seats were P.019 Tumpat in Kelantan, P.035 Kuala Nerus in Terengganu and P.095 Tanjong Karang in Selangor, as well as P.127 Jempol and P.129 Kuala Pilah in Negri Sembilan.
Tanjong Karang’s incumbent MP Tan Sri Noh Omar was seen at the event, but his name was not called when his party president revealed the list of candidates.
A one-minute clip of Noh Omar being consoled by supporters also made the rounds on various social media sites, following rumours that his party would drop him as a candidate for the elections.
“If you Tan Sri are not up there, we will still move. We will even remove the party flags.
“Tan Sri is not only defending Tanjong Karang but fighting to take back Selangor. Without Tan Sri, we don’t think (retaking Selangor from Pakatan Harapan) can happen,” the supporter said to Noh Omar, who is also Selangor BN chairman, before the politician left in his car.
Ahmad Zahid announced a total of 160 candidates who will be contesting in the upcoming elections this November 19.
He said the candidates are a mix of new faces and well-known names, the majority of whom educated and qualified in various academic fields and expertise.
BN’s Sabah candidates will be announced later today.
