KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 — Two parliamentary seats in Kelantan and Terengganu, Tumpat and Kuala Nerus, will purportedly be defended by their incumbent PAS lawmakers on a Barisan Nasional (BN) ticket, according to sources.
Malaysiakini, quoting sources, reported that the Tumpat and Kuala Nerus seats have been set aside by BN for the incumbent MPs.
“It becomes more interesting when the potential candidates involved are actually from a party outside of BN,” said the sources when contacted by the portal last night.
The suggestion points to the candidates who were once from or currently in PAS, a component party of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.
For Tumpat, the incumbent is former Kelantan PAS communications secretary Che Abdullah Md Nawi.
Former PAS Ulama Syura Council secretary Khairuddin Aman Razali is the Kuala Nerus incumbent.
The source revealed that the Tumpat seat will be given to Che Abdullah, but BN wants to decide only after PN names its candidate there.
Meanwhile, an Umno source also confirmed that the Kuala Nerus seat will be reserved for Khairuddin.
Previously, both incumbents were tipped to join BN after being seen to be going against PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s previous decision to sever ties with Muafakat Nasional (MN) charter.
