KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 — The two main parties in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition have announced several non-Bumputera as candidates for 14 parliamentary seats in the peninsula in the November 19 general election.
At the coalition’s candidate reveal event last night, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) listed 12 candidates, with 11 coming from its associate wing.
Among the 11 are Alan Oh, who will challenge the incumbent Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng from DAP for the parliamentary seat; Datuk Seri Irudianathan Gabriel in Sungai Siput, Perak; and Chin Yoke Khen in Cheras.
The sole non-Bumiputera candidate listed directly under Bersatu’s main party is Robert Ling Kui Ee, a former Sidam assemblyman who will be contesting in the Sungai Petani parliamentary seat in Kedah.
PAS gave two names.
Steven Koh Tien Yew from the Islamist party’s non-Muslim PAS Supporters Congress (DHPP) is set to stand in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, challenging the DAP incumbent who also shares a similar first name — Steven Sim Chee Keong.
The second PAS candidate is Thilak Raj Gunasegaran, who will be contesting in the Sungkai parliamentary seat in Perak.
PN comprises five parties. The other components are Gerakan, Parti Progresif Sabah, and Parti Soliddariti Tanah Airku.
