GEORGE TOWN, Oct 31 — The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) candidate for Kepala Batas should use the Pakatan Harapan (PH) logo instead of the Muda logo, the Youth wings of Penang Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties said today.
Penang Dapsy chief Lee Wei Seang, Penang Amanah Youth chief Khairul Ali and Penang PKR Youth chief Fadzli Roslan issued a joint statement today calling on Muda to use Pakatan’s logo when contesting in the Kepala Batas parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15).
The Penang PH Youth chiefs held a meeting last night to discuss this and said they hope that Muda will show its sincerity in working as a team with PH by using the coalition’s logo.
They said there was no reason why Muda could not use the Pakatan logo, although technically the party’s application to join the coalition had yet to be formalised as it required approval from the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
They also said they fully respect the PH leadership’s decision to let Muda contest in the Kepala Batas seat, which was previously contested by an Amanah candidate.
Muda’s Muhammad Danial Abdul Majeed is the chosen candidate to contest for the Kepala Batas parliamentary seat, an Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) stronghold.
Kepala Batas has always been held by an Umno MP from BN.
Former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi held the seat for eight terms from 1978 to 2013.
Incumbent Kepala Batas MP Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, also from BN, has held the seat since 2013.
The former housing and local government minister defended his seat in 2018 with a majority of 4,736 votes.
He is expected to defend his seat this time around in a three-cornered fight with Muda and PAS.
