GEORGE TOWN, Oct 27 — Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow today said first-time candidates would be among those fielded in the state’s federal seats for the 15th general election.

However, he declined to share how many there would be or indicate their backgrounds when asked.

“Let the party secretary-general announce on this weekend,” he said in a press conference after attending a Malaysia Book of Records certificate presentation for the most wing chun performance by an individual at Phoenix Asia Academy of Technology here.

He said DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke is expected to announce the list of candidates to be fielded in the parliamentary seats in Penang this Sunday.

When asked about rumours he could be fielded in Batu Kawan after the incumbent MP Kasturiraani Patto announced her decision not to defend her seat, Chow remained coy and said to wait for official announcement by Loke.

Chow, who is the Penang chief minister, is the incumbent Tanjong MP.

He was the Tanjong MP from 1999 to 2013 and again from 2018.

DAP won seven out of 13 parliamentary seats in Penang and is set to defend the same seats this GE15.

Its Pakatan Harapan (PH) allies, PKR and Amanah, are expected to contest in the remaining six seats.
