JOHOR BAHRU Oct 26 — A Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) representative today suggested that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim appoint an ethnic Chinese or Indian deputy prime minister if Pakatan Harapan (PH) wins Putrajaya in GE15.

GTA deputy information chief Mahdzir Ibrahim said with PKR being a multi-racial political party, the appointment of a Chinese or Indian as deputy prime minister should be a manifestation of the party's policy.

"Anwar, who is also the PH chairman and PKR president, is also highly praised by leaders of all races. I believe that if Anwar is ready to announce the appointment of a Chinese or Indian as deputy prime minister, it means that he is prepared to become the 10th prime minister.

"If not, his past speeches are just rhetoric to attract the people's sympathy for him,” said Mahdzir in a statement here.

His remark came as a response to Anwar’s pledge on Monday to appoint two deputy prime ministers should the coalition win the coming general election.

Previously, PH named Anwar as its prime minister candidate for GE15.

Earlier today, PH manifesto committee member Chan Foong Hin said the pact is committed to an East Malaysian deputy prime minister who has jurisdiction to carry out reforms under the Sabah and Sarawak affairs ministry.

However, when asked about the DPM candidate, Upko outgoing president Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau declined to comment, only to say that PH will talk about it when the time comes.
